In preparation for tonight’s meeting, I have received two quotes from our solicitors.

The first is for the transfer of the land on which the bus shelters are/will be situated, for which the cost will be £1000 plus VAT.  The land will be transferred at nil value.  Karbon will provide the transfer plans.

The second is for a simple licence to allow the Town Council to place the litter bins and bench on Karbon land.  The cost for the licence will be £300 plus VAT.

Karbon will cover 50% of the cost and will guarantee that the cost to the Council does not exceed £650 plus VAT, even if the matter becomes protracted.

My home broadband is being severely affected by the snow, so I am not anticipating being able to attend this evening.  However, there is little more to be said on the matter.

Should the Council approve a decision to go ahead with the transfer of the land on which the bus shelters are and will be situated, and agree to a licence to cover the installation of the street furniture, I would be grateful if you could forward me the details of the solicitors who will be acting for the Council and I will move this on as soon as possible.

With regard to the question about the Karbon public liability insurance cover, it is as I suspected, we are not insured for structures which we do not ownWe’d be looking to transfer the land at W Wylam Drive, Priestclose (travelling West) and Stoney flat Bank (travelling West).

The licence would be for the three bins and bench which are already in position.  It would not give you carte blanche to install other equipment.  The initial quote for this was £500 + VAT, but the solicitor reduced it because this is such a minor matter.

A licence for the bus shelters was dismissed early on as a much more complex piece of work than a lease and therefore more expensive than the costs quoted initially.
