PRUDHOE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON – FRIDAY, 29th NOVEMBER 2024

Christmas has officially arrived in Prudhoe! The town is alive with festive spirit, from the dazzling lights on Front Street to the festoon lights and angels in West Wylam, the tree lights in West Mickley, and the glowing Half-Way angels. The beautifully decorated shop windows have inspired many residents to create their own winter wonderlands at home.

The annual Christmas Lights Switch-On is always a highlight, and this year was no exception. Hundreds of residents gathered on Front Street, eager to celebrate with family and friends. The atmosphere was electric, fuelled not by the mulled wine and mince pies generously served by Prudhoe Co-op staff, but by the warmth and enthusiasm of the community.

This year, there was an even greater appreciation for what Prudhoe has to offer. Local traders kept their doors open, and the bustling streets reflected a shared joy and celebration of our vibrant town.

Festive Fun for All
The Spetchells Christmas Fair was a hub of activity, offering festive games, prizes, and holiday treats. Outside, Prudhoe Guides delighted attendees with baked goods and hot drinks, while Prudhoe Scouts tempted everyone with sweet treats.

Adding to the evening’s magic were the incredible performances by local school choirs from Adderlane Academy, Mickley First School, and St. Matthew’s RC Primary. Their songs filled the air with holiday cheer, showcasing the dedication of teachers and the talents of our young people.

An extra treat this year was a delicious hog roast, provided by the ever-popular Grants Butchers of Prudhoe, adding to the night’s festive feast.

The Magic of the Switch-On
As the clock counted down to the big moment, Mister Disco Man kept the crowd entertained from his floodlit stage, joined by the Dragon Tale Theatre Group and the star of the evening, Santa Claus himself. The anticipation built, and with a collective cheer, the Christmas lights burst to life, illuminating the street in spectacular fashion.

This year’s display featured a special “Merry Christmas from Prudhoe” motif in The Glade, marking the start of the holiday season with pride and joy.
