Prudhoe Pays Tribute at 2025 Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service

Prudhoe witnessed an outstanding turnout this year as the community came together to honour and remember those who have given their lives in service to their country. The 2025 Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service took place on Sunday, 9th November, bringing residents, visitors, and organisations together in a moving display of unity, gratitude, and remembrance.

The parade assembled at the Prudhoe and District United Services Club car park, led by Parade Marshal Councillor Chris Barrett. With solemn pride and respect, the procession was joined by uniformed personnel from 3RHA, veterans and community groups, and representatives from local organisations. Accompanied by the stirring music of the North Tyneside Pipe Band, the parade made its way along Front Street, through Kepwell Court, and onward to the Lychgate War Memorial at St. Mary Magdalene Church.

At 10.55am, the Remembrance Service, led with dignity by Reverend Dan Freyhan, brought the community together in quiet reflection. At 11.00am, the traditional Act of Remembrance was observed as the town fell silent to honour the fallen. Wreaths were then placed at the war memorial in a solemn and deeply moving expression of collective respect and remembrance.

Following the service, the parade reassembled for the return procession to the Prudhoe and District United Services Club. As they passed the dignitaries’ platform, participants rendered a formal ‘eyes right’ salute to Deputy Lieutenant Julian Morrison-Bell, representing the Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland, and Mayor Councillor Jonathan Wheeler.

Mayor Councillor Jonathan Wheeler expressed his deep sense of honour in laying a wreath on behalf of the people of Prudhoe, paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and recognising the continued dedication of those who serve today.

The Town Council extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this solemn and meaningful occasion, from the parade organisers and participants to the residents and visitors who lined the streets in support. Together, the people of Prudhoe demonstrated their enduring commitment to honouring the past and ensuring that the sacrifices of the fallen are never forgotten.
