Extension of Public Spaces Protection Order in Northumberland County
Northumberland County Council has announced the extension of the Northumberland County Council (Consumption of Alcohol) Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for a further 3 years. The PSPO aims to prevent alcohol-related anti-social behaviour in public spaces. The full text of the extension can be read in the link below.
Originally implemented on 20th October 2020 for a period of 3 years, the PSPO was set to expire on 20th October 2023. Under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, the Council has extended the order for an additional 3 years, from 21st October 2023 to 20th October 2026.
The PSPO prohibits the consumption of alcohol in certain public spaces where this has been deemed necessary to prevent alcohol-related anti-social behaviour. The full text of the PSPO can be accessed via the following link:
Northumberland County Council states the extension is necessary to continue preventing the occurrence of alcohol-related anti-social activities that the PSPO aims to control.
