A tree ‘lit’ for Christmas…

Plans are afoot to bring a sparkle to West Wylam Shopping Centre this Christmas.  At their meeting last night Prudhoe Town Council was asked to include the shopping precinct in their Christmas Lighting Scheme.

This year, the Council has been able to support lights in a live tree, at the front of the precinct.  It is a beautiful tree, and it will look even more so lit up for all to enjoy.  The tree is owned by Karbon Homes who have kindly given their permission for the work to take place.  The work is being carried out by the Council’s Contractors, Christmas Plus.

The lit tree will complement the Christmas event being organised by members of the Community and held on Friday 3rd December. Details are available via Cllr Jane Johnson.  The group organising the event will arrange for the lights to be switched on and they will come on every afternoon at the same time thereafter, ready for the young people coming out of school.  Traders in the precinct are also getting festive and supporting the event.

The Town Council is conscious that the Christmas Lights scheme has always been mainly focused on Front Street, with one lit tree at Mickley also, but welcomes the opportunity to work with those in outlying areas with a view to extending it.

The nights are drawing in but there is not much longer to wait until our Christmas displays light up the winter months.
