Prudhoe Remembers 2023
Armistice and Remembrance Parade 2023
Wreaths were laid on the actual day of Armistice on Saturday 11th November 2023, this year we were also joined by Prudhoe Veterans Club. A big thank you to all those who attended and special thanks to Rev. Dan Freyhan, and bugler Stewart Mould for playing ‘The Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’ to name but a few.
What a fantastic turnout for Prudhoe to Remember those who have fallen.
The Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service took place on Sunday 12th November 2023. Marching from the Legion car park, led by Councillor Chris Barret as Parade Marshal.
Uniformed Services and Organisations, paraded with the North Tyneside Pipe Band along Front Street, to Kepwell Court to the Lychgate War Memorial at St Mary Magdalene Church. The service commenced at 10.55am with the Act of Remembrance at 11am and wreath-laying.
The Exhortation
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.”
The Kohima Epitaph
‘When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say,
For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.’
Following the church service with members from uniformed services, organisations, and residents the parade returned to the Legion. On their march they gave ‘eyes right’ salute to Deputy Lieutenant Julian Morrison-Bell, representing the Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland, Mayor Cllr Bryan Futers, Vice Chair Tracy Gilmore and Rev. Dan Freyhan. A big heartfelt thank you to all those involved in organising the parade and of course to all those who took part, and to those who visited our town showing their support and respect.
