CANCELLED – Christmas Lights Switch-On Event

Very sadly, Prudhoe Town Council and Prudhoe Community Partnership are having to cancel the Christmas festivities planned for tonight and this afternoon, due to the weather warning in place for Prudhoe and 40mph winds forecast from 3:00pm this afternoon.

Met Office Weather Warning

Updated Risk Assessment

Please be assured that the decision has not been taken lightly.  The events take a great deal of planning and there is sincere disappointment from the organisers and the wonderful contributors and community groups that support the event each year, who all feature on our poster.

We know that Prudhoe is made up of hardy folk who have battled the elements in previous years to enjoy music and entertainment and mulled wine and mince pies.  Snow and rain we can cope with, but unfortunately the wind is the unstoppable spoiler of outside events, as structures cannot be signed off as safe in such conditions.

The events that launch the lights switch-on may not be able to go ahead this afternoon and evening, but we hope the lights being switched on for the sun going down will cheer up everyone who was planning to attend.

Please continue to enjoy and support our terrific town as Christmas approaches, and especially enjoy our fantastic lights displays.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
